week7-2

I read an article from abc news.

Indian authorities have filed charges against Tibetan Buddhism's third most important leader following an investigation into $1.35 million in cash discovered at his headquarters in northern India, police said Thursday.
The money was found last January during a police raid on the Karmapa's monastery. It was in a range of currencies, and the Karmapa's aides said it had been donated by his followers, who came from all over the world.
But the amount of cash, which included a large amount of Chinese yuan, concerned police, who said the sums were too large to be merely from donations.

How will they spend such a lot of money? I want to know that.
They have something to spend money, I think.

week7-1

As the health and wellness industry’s first iPhone application to feature voice recognition software, the new Calorie Count App allows users to record their food entries by selecting the “Voice” option on the food-logging screen. Users can then record multiple food items and serving sizes at once within an allotted 15-second timeframe. Once recorded, the app will automatically search the Calorie Count database and provide a list of detailed nutritional information for each of the individual items spoken. All desired items can then be added to the user’s food journal.
In addition, the new Calorie Count App boasts a more efficient, time-saving food-logging platform with the introduction of tabbed navigation and a multi-add food-logging feature. The tabbed navigation allows users to easily switch between their multiple food, activity and personalized lists without ever leaving the logging screen. The multi-add also allows users to search and add several items to their food journal at one time.
“The team at Calorie Count is continuously building toward innovative and unique ways to make healthy living on-the-go easier and more efficient,” said Igor Lebovic, co-founder, CalorieCount.com. “We are providing our users with a one-of-a-kind industry voice recognition software and progressive new food-logging platform, to further help members maintain their health and wellness goals on a daily basis.”

week6-1

In Japan, English-language education starts the first year of junior high school. Surprisingly students are still unable to speak or to comprehend English properly.
One of the reasons is the instruction focusing on the skill of reading and writing. In the past, Japan was a nation composed of a single ethnic group and had very small number of foreign visitors, and there were few opportunity to converse in a foreign languages, therefore the study of foreign languages were mainly considered to obtain the knowledge from the literature of other countries. In addition, Japanese and English belong to different families of languages. There is no commonalities neither in structure nor words.
Another reason in the Ministry of Education's guidelines. The guideline limits the English vocabulary that is to be learned during the three years junior high school to about 1,000 words. Textbooks must be screened first by the Ministry of Education and result for the most part in standardized textbooks make English language learning too confining.
Schools are now also putting strength into English Education by the installation of language laboratories and the hiring of foreign language teachers.
I think that japanese students should study English from elementary school. They can spread their vocab. And the teachers should be people who are native.

week5-1

During the fight, the animals were abandoned in an empty zoo for more than a week. They were just waiting for food and water. After the battle, the animals were still in trouble. At least two of the animals, of approximately six hundred, died because of stress caused by the battle. The zoo was already in trouble. The corrupt government often didn’t give the zoo a monthly allowance for animal food. Furthermore, Tripoli Zoo was already indebted to an animal food company and the total debt is estimated to be about $1.5 million. No one knows how long the zookeepers will have to wait and the animals will have to suffer. It is a very unfortunate situation for the animals.

People have a responsibility,so we should consider measures for them.

Millions of people in Africa region are facing starvation because of failed harvests and the global increases in the price of food, an aid agency warned today. The poverty fighting organization warned that millions of people in Ethiopia were facing starvation. The country's February harvest failed due to the worst drought in years. The Ethiopian government estimates that “4.6million people” need emergency food aid.
Africa usually get two rainy seasons a year but many areas have had inadequate rainfall for more than 12 months. Some rain has fallen in the region recently but the charity said it was either too little or too late to ensure a harvest later this year.
Dams and water tanks need to be repaired, water trucked in and seeds and veterinary medicines supplied, to ensure no more crops or livestock are lost.

week3-2

I read an article about a croc this week.
A new prehistoric croc sporting an odd head "shield" has been found in Morocco, paleontologists say.
A piece of ShieldCroc's skull landed in Canada's musium in the early 2000s, but Holliday and colleagues have only recently studied the specimen and its odd headpiece.
It's difficult to determine what purpose the shield served when the animal lived, some 99 million years ago, Holliday noted.
But after rigorous evaluation of the fossil and studies of comparative behaviors with modern crocodilians, scientists suggest the shield may have helped ShieldCroc regulate its temperature and communicate with other ShieldCrocs.
I was surprised that the scientists have reserched about that deeply. The technology for the latest research is great.
